About Me
Hi, I’m Zack, the self-taught home bartender behind be your own bartender. My journey into the world of cocktails started during the COVID lockdowns when my wife and I had to pause our favorite night of the week - date night. Like many others before the pandemic, we’d go out for dinner and enjoy a couple of cocktails, always excited to try something new. But when staying in became the norm, I decided to bring the cocktail experience home.
What began as a simple YouTube search to recreate my favorite drinks quickly turned into a passion. I discovered a love for the craftsmanship of cocktail making—the techniques, the tools, and the endless possibilities of flavor combinations. It wasn’t long before I started experimenting with new recipes, honing my skills, and sharing my creations with friends. Seeing the joy that a well-made drink could bring to others made me want to dive even deeper into the craft.
As an engineer working in the medical device industry, I bring a unique perspective to bartending. I approach every drink with precision—measuring, organizing, and using the right tools to create consistent, high-quality cocktails. At the same time, bartending challenges me to embrace the creative side of the process, pushing me beyond my comfort zone to explore and innovate.
I created be your own bartender to share everything I’ve learned and to help others discover the joy of crafting drinks at home. My goal is to make bartending accessible, fun, and approachable—whether you’re mixing up cocktails for a party or enjoying a quiet evening with a drink in hand. You don’t need a fancy setup to get started; I began with a shaker from Target, a pint glass, and a chopstick. From there, it’s all about experimenting, learning, and having fun.
Through this platform, I hope to inspire others to build confidence in their own cocktail-making skills. Whether you’re new to bartending or looking to refine your craft, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. Let’s shake, stir, and sip our way to something extraordinary.
